How Much Does a Website Cost in India in 2026? A Line-by-Line Breakdown

Real 2026 price ranges for business websites, Shopify stores and custom builds in India, plus the yearly costs most quotes leave out.

Ask five people in India what a website costs and you will hear five numbers between ₹5,000 and ₹5 lakh. All of them can be honest. The trouble is that “a website” can mean a one-page template or a custom platform with logins, payments and a CMS.

This guide breaks the price down the way we do when we quote a project at ReromSpaces: by type of site, by what drives the number up, and by the yearly costs that people forget until the renewal email arrives. Prices are typical ranges we see across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai and the rest of India in 2026, not a rate card.

The short answer

If you only read one section, read this table. It covers the one-time build cost. Yearly running costs come later.

Type of websiteTypical one-time costTypical timeline
Basic template site (1 to 5 pages)₹8,000 – ₹25,0001 – 2 weeks
Custom small business website (5 to 10 pages)₹40,000 – ₹1,20,0003 – 5 weeks
Advanced custom site (CMS, animation, integrations)₹1,20,000 – ₹3,50,0005 – 10 weeks
Shopify store₹40,000 – ₹2,00,0003 – 6 weeks
Custom eCommerce or marketplace₹2,50,000 – ₹10,00,000+8 – 16 weeks
Web app, portal or dashboard₹3,00,000+8 weeks +

Most local businesses (a clinic, an interior designer, a coaching institute, a restaurant) land in the second row. Most D2C brands start in the Shopify row and move to custom once fees and app costs start to hurt. We wrote a separate guide on when a custom store is worth it.

What actually drives the price

Two websites with the same number of pages can be priced ₹60,000 apart. These are the five things that move the number most.

1. Custom design or a template

A template gives you someone else’s layout with your logo and colours. Custom design means a designer works out what your visitors need to see, in what order, and designs every page for it. Custom design typically adds 30 to 50 percent to the cost, and it is where most of the difference in enquiries comes from.

2. The number of unique page layouts

Pages are not equal. Ten service pages that share one layout cost far less than ten pages that each need their own design. When you compare quotes, ask how many unique templates are included, not just how many pages.

3. Features beyond “pages”

Each of these adds real development time: online booking, payment links, a members area, multiple languages, a property or product search with filters, CRM integration, a blog with categories, or a CMS so your team can edit content. A booking system alone can add ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 depending on how custom it is.

4. Content

This is the most underestimated line. If you hand over finished text and good photos, the build moves fast. If the agency has to write the copy, source images or plan a photoshoot, that is extra work, and it should be. Good copy is also the part that decides whether you rank on Google, so it is rarely the place to save money.

5. SEO and performance work

A site can look finished and still be invisible to Google. Proper page titles, structured data, a sitemap, fast image loading, redirects from your old site and Search Console setup take time. Some quotes include it, many do not. If you want the site to bring in leads on its own, this needs to be in scope. The platform you build on matters too; we compare two popular options in Next.js vs WordPress for small businesses.

Yearly costs most quotes leave out

The build is a one-time cost. A website also has running costs, and they belong in your budget from day one.

  • Domain name: roughly ₹600 to ₹1,000 a year for a .in domain and ₹900 to ₹1,500 for a .com. First-year offers are often cheaper than the renewal price, so check the renewal number.
  • Hosting: shared hosting runs around ₹2,500 to ₹8,000 a year. Managed or cloud hosting for busier sites is typically ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 a year. Many modern static sites can run on Vercel or Netlify for free or close to it.
  • Business email: Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 is billed per user per month. For a small team it usually adds a few thousand rupees a year. Check current pricing, as both change plans regularly.
  • Plugins and themes: WordPress sites often depend on paid plugins for forms, backups, SEO and security, commonly ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 a year combined.
  • Maintenance: updates, backups, small edits and monitoring, commonly ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 a month depending on how much support you want.

Freelancer, agency or studio?

Who builds the site affects the price more than almost anything else. Each option is right for someone.

A freelancer is usually the cheapest route and can be excellent. The risk is availability: one person handles design, development and support, and if they get busy or move on, your site has nobody looking after it.

A large agency brings process, account managers and bigger teams. You pay for that overhead, and smaller projects can end up with the most junior people.

A small studio sits in between. You talk to the people who actually design and build your site, and there is still a team behind the project if someone is away. That is the model we run at ReromSpaces, and the reason our pricing sits in the middle of the ranges above.

Red flags in a cheap quote

A low price is not a problem on its own. These are the details that usually explain it.

  • The domain or hosting is registered in the developer’s name, not yours.
  • No mention of mobile testing, page speed or SEO setup.
  • “Unlimited revisions” with no fixed scope, which usually means unlimited delays.
  • A nulled or pirated premium theme, which can carry malware.
  • No plan for redirects if you are replacing an existing site, so your Google rankings reset to zero.
  • No handover: you cannot log in, edit content or move the site without them.

How to get an accurate quote

The more specific your brief, the tighter the quote. Before you contact anyone, write down:

  1. What the website must achieve: calls, bookings, sales or credibility.
  2. The pages you think you need and two or three sites you like, with a note on why.
  3. Features you know you need, such as bookings, payments or a blog.
  4. Whether you will supply the text and photos or need help with them.
  5. Your deadline and a rough budget range. A range is not a trap; it lets the developer suggest what fits.

Send the same brief to everyone you are considering and you can finally compare quotes like for like.

If you would like a fixed quote from us, the website development page explains what is included, or you can send us your brief. We reply with a scope, timeline and price, usually within a day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum cost of a website in India?

A basic template website built by a freelancer or on a DIY builder can cost as little as ₹8,000 to ₹25,000. A custom-designed business website from a professional studio usually starts around ₹40,000.

Is a ₹10,000 website good enough for a small business?

It can be enough to get online, but at that price you are almost always buying a lightly edited template with little SEO, speed or conversion work. If the site needs to bring in leads from Google, budget for a custom build.

Do I have to pay every year for a website?

Yes. Even after the build is paid for, you pay for the domain, hosting and usually business email every year, plus optional maintenance. For a small business site this is commonly ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 a year before maintenance.

Why do website quotes vary so much?

Quotes cover very different amounts of work. One price may be a template with your logo swapped in, another may include custom design, copywriting, SEO setup, integrations and support. Always compare what is included, not just the total.
